Shortly before 12:30 a.m. in Wicomico County on Sunday, Sept. 25, a neighbor on Union Avenue alerted the Salisbury Fire Department of a fire that broke out in a nearby home that was under renovation.
Officials said that upon arrival at the two-story home, they were met with a fire in the kitchen area of the renovated residence, and it took a team of nearly three dozen firefighters approximately 20 minutes to get the blaze under control.
The fire caused an estimated $30,000 to the structure of the home, though no contents were destroyed, the fire marshal noted.
According to officials, the preliminary cause of the fire is believed to be a failure of a branch of the home’s electrical circuit, which sparked the flames.
The fire marshal noted that there was not a smoke alarm, fire alarm, or sprinkler president in the home at the time of the incident.
